End of the semester blues

Yikes! It's that time again: end of semester scramble.
I'm sure you're stressed with all that's going to be due, and all the last minute work you have to do, and on top of it all, all the RA duties.
I know I'm stressed. So stressed, my hair is falling out and I'm not eating enough and I'm staying up way too late doing assignments.
But, you know who else is stressed? Your residents. And while yes, you may be busier, and perhaps spending your down time stress-crying, but it's important to note that your residents are feeling the same. We all want someone to vent to, so be that person for your residents! Help them through this tough, end of the semester time where every teacher feels the need to cram huge assignments down your throats.
An easy way to do this is while on duty, going around and talking to residents. Ask them about their finals. Ask them about their assignments. Sit down and vent for a while about teachers, assignments, group assignments, etc. Having these talks with your residents will be meaningful and your residents will appreciate it, trust me.
Another way is hosting a low-key event. maybe bring some tea and talk. Maybe have a pajama party, pop some popcorn, and just rant about all the work that needs to be done. These can be destressing ways to help residents. But also, keep in mind that perhaps they do have a lot of work. And in that case, maybe bring residents together to do work. Maybe have a study session, so you can do work too!
Offering your residents help is also a good way to connect with them. Yeah, we're busy and don't have time to revise all our resident's papers. But maybe helping them one-on-one can help. Maybe reading something over in their bedroom and offering ideas can help. Perhaps steering them in the direction of the tutoring service on campus can help.
This time of the year is stressful, but as RAs, we can make it a little easier for our residents if we're there for them. I love handing out candy at this time of the year, or giving them motivation. Invite them to the library. Invite them to your room. Do anything that can help them stay motivated and slay their finals.
But, don't forget about yourself, either!
